The 6 hours of the Nürburgring was run, in this edition, with a format that saw two 3-hour races, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday. Each race was preceded by the respective qualifying round.
In the race 1, on Saturday, the Phoenix Racing’s #16 Audi R8 LMS GT3, driven by Michele, Winkelhock, Giermaziak and Schramm, started from the ninth row and finished in fifth place. The race took place between the final part of the afternoon and the first shadows of the evening and was characterized by a downpour in the final phase.
On Sunday, in race 2, Michele challenged for the qualifying, with two laps at the limit that earned the fifteenth position. In the race, the R8 #16 closed with another good result, in seventh position, which was useful for the team and the drivers to work towards the main goal, the ADAC Total Energies 24H Nurburgring on 28 and 29 May.
The great job of the drivers and the team aims to prepare the prestigious 24 hours in the best way. This comes to light clearly from Michele‘s words, immediately after the weekend.
“We have always been in line with the performance of the other Audis and I took the second top qualifying, with great pleasure. In fact, I drove for two tight laps, without traffic and I enjoyed the track and the pleasure of maximizing the Audi. The lap was quite good although something was missing in two corners. In the race we did some changes and we improved some things that we will use to have a good weekend at the 24 hours. As for the race, BMWs are superior to everyone at the moment. We will see how they will modify the BOP and then we will take stock.”
