After the one conquered last June at Misano Adriatico, in the fifth round of the Italian GT Championship came the second season win for Michele Beretta and Alex Frassineti, who leave the “Enzo & Dino Ferrari” circuit with as many points as possible and with the minimum penalties on time (thank to the 4th place in Race 2) in view of the next round in Vallelunga, which will be held in only two weeks.
The result allowed the Ombra Racing duo to close the gap to the leadership, now far by only 7 points.
In the first race, Beretta and Frassineti dominated “flag to flag” after the start from the pole position, despite Cheever (on Ferrari 488) tried to put pressure on Beretta in the last laps, but the Lamborghini Junior driver managed in the perfect way its leadership, conquering the second season’s victory and confirming the great feeling with this track where they had already picked up two second places in the opening round of the season.
In Race 2, the start took place behind Safety Car for the baf weather conditions, a situation never before seen on the previous four weekends. Starting from third place on the grid with an handicap time of 15″ to pay off in the pit-stop for the win get few hours before, Beretta and Frassineti were able to conquer a perfect fourth place that allows them to erase all the penalties in the next round, and at the same time to get important points for the overall standings.
Michele Beretta: “We are very pleased for this weekend in Imola, where we have found the top positions after some unlucky races. In Race 1 we lead the pack from start to finish, a good win that we needed especially for the standings. In Race 2 we did not step up on the podium, but the points earned allow us to look at the next Vallelunga race with confidence, where we will still have to do well to undo those seven points that separate us from the leadership of the championship.“
