Michele Beretta will return on track soon in the International GT Open championship at the wheel of the VSR team’s Lamborghini Huracàn GT3 EVO. Michele’s commitments don’t end there, but they will be enriched with another part racing programme, a fascinating challenge which will be unveiled soon…
After a racing season full of achievements, with the wins in European Le Mans Series (GTE class) and at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (Silver Cup), Michele Beretta returns on the car which saw him active few years ago, the Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
The italian driver will join the the six rounds of the International GT Open alongside the danish driver Frederik Schandorff and supported by Vincenzo Sospiri Racing.
Michele is excitining about his return on Lamborghini: “My return at the wheel of Lamborghini was initiated by Giorgio Sanna (Lamborghini Motorsport Manager), with whom I have always kept in touch and which, after the excellent 2020, has aided my return to Lamborghini. This has resulted an interesting programme that will see me in Vincenzo’s car (Sospiri) to aiming for GT Open honours. I saw many familiar faces and an environment in which I always felt good. In addition to Giorgio (Sanna), that I have already mentioned, I met another friend in Vincenzo Sospiri, with whose team I have already raced in single-seaters. Vincenzo is an efficient manager and a fantastic tutor since he was also a world class driver, he has a great desire to win. I would say that it’s a pleasure to go back to Lamborghini.”
After many great victories last year, culminating in the ELMS title and the win at Spa, what do you expect from this season?
“The 2021 racing season will be very important for me because I want to further build on the results I obtained in 2020 and lay the foundations for 2022, I want to improve to present myself in the best way next year. The GT races will be real sprint races of just one hour, with a driver change and a refuelling. For this reason, the experience that I had last year, when I raced with Porsche, Mercedes and Audi, in different championships and teams, in different racing conditions, will come in handy. I want to make the most of what I have learned to aim at the top again.”
