Next weekend Michele will be involved in the prestigious 24 Hours of Spa Francorchamps.
After the unlucky weekend of the Gt World Challenge America, ran at Watkins Glen, Michele comes back to Europe for the very important Belgian race, valid as the third round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
Michele landed in Belgium, directly from the United States, where he raced the fourth round of the GT World Challenge America last weekend. On the Watkins Glen track, Michele and Andrea Caldarelli’s Huracàn interrupted the series of four consecutive victories.
After obtaining the pole position in the first qualifying, some problems, which occurred in both races, prevented the Beretta–Caldarelli couple from extending the series of successes and in the two races arrived a fourth and a second place respectively in the Pro category.
There is no time to regret the outcome at Glen, it is already time to concentrate on the demanding Total Energies 24 Hours of Spa, a race in which Mike will be on track with the Vincenzo Sospiri Racing’s Lamborghini Huracàn GT3 Evo and he will have alongside him, in addition to his usual mates, Hites and Nemoto, also the fast Polish Karol Basz. In the Silver Cup category, Michele and his teammates have solid ambitions to be able to compete at the top, knowing how many pitfalls these 24 Hour challenges hide.
“We come from a period in which we have been hit by some inconveniences, I hope that the debt is paid off and at the 24 Hours of Spa everything will be ok. The hope is to be able to run a race similar to the 24 hours of the Nurburgring, where we stayed away from problems and finished with a good fifth place. The 24 hours is the event in which all of us, drivers, mechanics and teams, put our maximum energy into it. The race in which it is not allowed to make mistakes, also because the entry list is a very high level and every mistake is expensive. In races like this you have to stay away from problems so not to compromise the result, but every round you drive like in qualifying, very close to your limit. I don’t want to make any predictions, but I am aware that we have the potential to do a good job in our category.”
